HFHWC Quarterly Volunteer Spotlight- Roy Capdeville

Volunteer Spotlight- Roy Capdeville

This quarter’s Volunteer Spotlight features Roy Capdeville who offers his services weekly at the HFHWC ReStore.

While originally from New Orleans, Roy graduated from college in Chicago with a master’s degree in education. Shortly after, he was offered a job at a small school in Port Arthur, TX, where he met his wife, Roseann. In 1989, they moved to Walburg, TX, where he stayed until he retired in 2010. In that same year, Roy and his wife relocated here to Georgetown, and they have been active members of the community ever since.

Roy’s initial volunteering experience was with The Caring Place in Georgetown and then with Habitat in support of our home construction projects. Several years ago, he transitioned over to the ReStore and currently volunteers there at least once a week. To date, he has over 1700 volunteer hours with our organization!

Roy’s responsibilities include disassembling items and removing the metal components that can then be recycled. His work helps to ensure no item goes to waste and to provide an additional source of revenue for the ReStore.

Specifically, Roy states, “Copper is what we can best sell to help provide funds for our mission.”

When asked about what he enjoys most about volunteering with Habitat, he replied, “I enjoy the people who work here, those with similar values and the same goals.”

In fact, he states that our commitment to our mission in providing affordable housing to our community is what motivates him to continue working with us.

“It’s about helping our neighbors. Habitat is an organization that enables people to own a home that would have otherwise not have had an opportunity to do that.”

Roy further states that our organization “… gives people hope, a place to call home. Not just a house, but security, an anchor.”

Roy is grateful for the support of his wife, Roseann.  When they aren’t spending time at church together, they enjoy working on home projects and taking road trips to national and state parks.
