From the Director’s Chair – October 2017

Along with the cooler temperatures, Habitat is looking forward to the return of its home construction efforts in Williamson County!  After taking a break this summer, we are excited to kick off our fall build schedule in partnership with four future homeowner families.

These families will begin working alongside approximately 1,000 volunteers over the next 9 months to build their future homes in Cedar Park and Georgetown.   All four of these most recently qualified families are working single mothers with a total of 10 children, ranging from one to sixteen years of age.

Volunteers will start working in October on the site of the first home in Cedar Park followed by the next three homes in Georgetown, which are due to begin in early February, April and May, 2018.  As a result of two previously sponsored events known as Habitat panel builds, the Cedar Park and first Georgetown houses already have their walls framed and ready to go!  Two more panel builds are scheduled to occur in the early and late spring in partnership with local businesses and their employees.

The cost associated to build these homes is around $80,000 per home.  Donate today to help bring strength, stability and self-reliance to these families in need of a decent place to live.

During these next several months Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County trained volunteers and volunteer groups will also be busy in Taylor as part of the long term recovery effort to rebuild two homes that were completely destroyed by the Memorial Day floods of 2015.  If you are interested in helping out on these builds in Taylor, please contact Linda Sloan.

Fall weather also means fun-filled outdoor activities such as the San Gabriel River Brewery Second Annual Chili Cook-Off to benefit Habitat!  Mark your calendars to join us on Saturday, Nov. 4 as our friends at San Gabriel River Brewery give back with live music from 1pm -4pm and chili tasting from 1-3pm.  Find more info on the Facebook Event Page.  Does your chili have what it takes to win $50 – $350?!!  Find out by requesting an entry form by emailing [email protected].

All of these activities move us closer to achieving strength, stability and self-reliance in Williamson County.  Thank you for choosing to go on this journey with us.
